A Washington Landscape

I apologize for the lateness in posting my landscape assignment, but have had no time to sit down and make art despite the fact that I have had this image in my mind since March. I glimpsed this pond as the sunset somewhere in the vicinity of Chehalis, Washington. This is the first time I have tried watercolor on the water media clayboard. I like the way I can pull the color off the board if I make a mistake, but it was difficult to blend the color on the board. I think fluid acrylics might have worked better and I will try that next time.

Jan... I REALLY LOVE this piece. I think the colors draw me into the work. The compliment of the purple and yellow are beautiful!

When I saw this, I thought "this must be Jan's". I love the daring contrast of the purple and yellow, the equally dynamic texture of smooth and rough. Really catches my eye on many levels.

When I saw this scene, these were the colors I saw - my palette was very simple - purple, yellow, payne's gray and hooker's green - I was impressed with the shading and texture the board provided - very different from watercolor paper - thank you so much, andrew, tracie and suzie for your kind words
