Forest Spider

Hello Everybody!
I just had to get arting up lately, so here is my August canvas. I used a transparency for the background for my spider. (I wonder of this is going to be a trend for me throughout this challenge.) It is a picture of a vine maple on my property. Then I found a small branch, cut to size and attached with two wires. Threaded the "spider web" and added my spider. Somewhat simple, but quite effective I think. I hope it doesn't scare the spider-phobes too much.

Since I only get to this blog about once a week it makes it difficult to comment on each separate piece put up. I would like to say now, that all the artwork to date is FABULOUS! I'm very honored to be in the company of such wonderful artists!

Hey Zanne, I can see you have a body of work developing here, goes nicely with the crow. I lvoe how the forest comes off the page in the 3D parts.

Hoe did you do the background?

Thank you, Suzie. I had a picture of this great vine maple and imported it into my desktop publisher, played with it a bit and printed the background on a transparency sheet.
Cut it to size and very carefully lay it down on my canvas board which has been covered with soft gel medium.

Thank you, Jan and Mary Lin. I'm really loving the transparencies, they give such an ethereal look to the pieces I've made so far.

Mary Lin, you wouldn't believe how realistic that spider does feel! It's made of soft plastic and will make any arachniphobe squirm. Even the legs wiggle when the canvas is moved.

Z'Anne... your piece makes me shiver. It is beautiful and very realistic.

I would not want to walk into this web.
